The WESG 2017 quarter-finals are now over, which means we can now look at which teams have advanced to the semi-finals.
The biggest surprise of the quarter-finals came in the elimination of Cloud9, who were defeated by TeamOne on three maps. After the two teams could not find wins on their respective map picks, the series came down to Cache, where the Major champions cruised through the first half, 10-5. However, the second half was all about TeamOne, who won 11 out of 13 rounds to earn their spot in the semi-finals.
fnatic took on MVP PK in a best-of-three series and edged the Koreans in double overtime to claim their map pick Mirage 22-20. Keun-Chul "solo" Kang and co. looked to even the series on Inferno after their close comeback on Mirage, but were shut down 16-3 at the hands of Freddy "KRIMZ" Johansson, who led the series with a 1.60 rating.
Despite their slow T-side start on Mirage and Cache, Engin "MAJ3R" Küpeli and his men were the second team to advance with a 2-0 victory after taking down GODSENT. The Turks' CT-side came alive on both maps with the help of Ismailcan "XANTARES" Dörtkardeş's 1.68 rating (Mirage) and Ahmet "paz" Karahoca's 1.59 rating (Cache) to claim their semi-final spot.
The last quarter-final featured the Poles of AGO and Russia, with the series going to all three maps as the teams struggled on their own map picks. The decider map, Train, saw AGO pick up just three rounds in the first half, but the tides turned when sides switched as the Poles took nine straight to tie up the score at 12-12. But then Denis "seized" Kostin and co. picked up the pace and finally began to press on, picking up the remaining four rounds to secure a last-four berth.
